FIXTURES in the Taunton District Saturday League were again hit by frozen pitches with 17 matches postponed — but there was plenty of action to be played.

In the Seward Cup Quarter-Final, Redgate eased into the last four after a convincing 6-1 victory over Stogursey for whom Dean Marcheant scored.

On target for Redgate were Sam Granville with two, Jack Hamblin, Phil Court, Sergio da Silva Faria and Jack Evett.

In Division One, Alcombe Rovers lost 3-2 to Predators who now move up to third. Predators were in charge in the first period scoring three games through Justin Lewis, Carl Jones and Adam Kinsey but in the second-half Alcombe sorted themselves out and got back into the game with two goals from Aaron Ireton and Jason Hill, but it was not enough to earn them any points.

Bishops Lydeard have moved up four places following their 2-1 away win at Bridgwater Sports. Martin Hawkings and Lee Palk getting the Lydeard goals and Adam Wall hit Sports’ response.

Division Two saw Sampford Blues have opened up a four-point lead at the top of the table after beating Wyvern Rangers 3-0 thanks to two goals from Tom Jordan and one from John Norman.

Watchet let the gap open up above them by being held at home 1-1 by Dulverton Town, Lee Hooper and Adam Jeffries scoring for their respective clubs.

The mid-table clash between local rivals Middlezoy Rovers Reserves and Westonzoyland was an entertaining game that swung in both directions.

Westonzoyland went 1-0 up in just five minutes from Nathan Barnard. Dan Russell got one back for Rovers before James Millard restored the away side’s lead, but Aaron Phillips made things level at 2-2 at the interval.

Harry Millard gave Westonzoyland the lead again, but 16-year-old Jed Williams brought it back level again. Westonzoyland had two good chances to win the game at the death, but veteran keeper Kev Hurd saved the day for Rovers.

Staplegrove Reserves are off the bototm of the table following their 7-2 win over Bridgwater Sports who take over at the bottom.

James Nutt ‘s hat trick makes it 26 goals for him in all competitions this year, Adam Smith and George Whiting added one each with the experienced Mike Bird added two but the total yardage of the two goals was less than two yards but as he said, you have to be in the right place at the right time. Mason Gill and Matt Parker scored for Sports.

In Division Three, there was only game played and it resulted in a 5-1 home win for Bishop’s Hull over Norton Fitzwarren.

Steve Scorse led the line for Hull scoring a hat trick, Tom Wadham and Mike Kearley adding the other two goals, Miles Skuse replied for Norton.

Division Four saw Rhode Lane Wanderers beat local rivals Bridgwater Sports Colts 2-1 with goals from Ben Patrick and Lewis Baker.

Milverton Rangers increased their lead at the top of the table after a 2-0 win at Alcombe Rovers Reserves with Jamie Wood and Steve White doing the business.

Tom Warren continued his outstanding form this season as he helped the side to a clean sheet, form which has not gone unnoticed by other managers.

In Division Five, a lot of work by members of the North Petherton ground staff ensured the game against Tone Youth went ahead and they were rewarded with a 10-0 victory.

Josh Gracie scored a hat trick, Dan Barns added two with Will Marchant, Ben Howells, Darren Fouracre, Ollie Brewer and Ben Brewer all added one each.ng three.
