LEG spinner Max Waller told the County Gazette’s Daniel Milligan he will keep knocking on the door for that elusive spinner’s spot in the first team.

The 24-year-old has been playing for Rondebosch Cricket Club in Cape Town as part of his winter preparations for the new season after being linked with the club through former player Charl Willoughby.

Irish slow-left-arm spinner George Dockrell has replaced Murali Kartik but Waller believes if he can keep taking wickets and scoring runs in the second eleven then he will get his chance.

He said: “Preparation for the season has gone well and I managed to bowl a lot of overs in South Africa this winter.

“I am confident but I need to keep working on my consistency.

“I just have to keep doing what I do, bowl well and take wickets. If I can do that then my performances can’t be ignored and people have to take notice.”

Waller starred in Somerset’s Champions League T20 as he took 3-41 in two matches and also turned a few heads with the bat as he struck an impressive 120 in Somerset’s second team match against Essex last season.
