FOOTBALL: Wellington forming Past Players Association
Wellington Cricket Club’s move to form a Past Players Association is taking off.
A number of people have already said they would join the association and have promised to attend the inaugural meeting and lunch event being held tomorrow (Saturday) before the 1st XI’s Somerset league Division One home match with Temple Cloud.
Club secretary David Derrick, who is acting as a link between the three man working party and the club, told the County Gazette: “The planning work that has been done over the season so far culminated in the release of a standard letter at the club’s 20/20 inter club event that was held on the Jubilee holiday.
“It is an invite to a group of around 90 previous players from all generations to join the PPA and celebrate the club’s rich past now and in the future.
“The work done by Keith Colman, Matt Colman and Chris Rudd is beginning to bear results and already the interest in this new group is building.
“Saturday’s meeting is being held at 12.30pm in Wellington Playing Field Pavilion and will elect officers, agree a constitution and other items of procedure that will ensure that the association is fully and properly functional and ratified.
“Association membership is priced at £5 for those who are already a member of the club and £10 for those who are not, but £5 of this fee will be passed to the club for the granting of a social membership for 2012, so in the end all association members will be club members too.
“All who have received a letter are welcome to join the association from now and should make contact with Keith (01823-663307), Matt (01823-666898) or Chris (01823-667707).
“This is an exciting new venture and one that will add value to the club now and in the future and will be a superb way of reuniting old players who have lost touch with each other and of linking the club’s past in a formal way to the here and now.
“As the association grows in size and membership so will its activities and events such as away days at selected matches and a match between an Association XI and a Club XI have been proposed."
