JAMES Sinclair is the new Taunton and Pickeridge Club Champion.

On a windy day the pre- competition favourite and scratch golfer shot rounds of 72 and 76 to win the gross event by only one shot from Ali Williams who had the best gross of the afternoon with a 72.

First round leader with a fine 71 was Will Parkman but he was only able to shoot an 82 in the afternoon to fall off of the pace.

Paul Stephens came third with rounds of 76 and 74.

In the handicap nett category, Pep Symons was the early forst round leader with a nett 66.

Chris Duckworth was only one behind with a chasing pack of no fewer than eight other golfers who were at level par or better.

Keith Wiggins was the star of the afternoon round with a very impressive gross 72 which gave him a nett 64. This followed his morning round of nett 73 to give him a 36 hole total of 137 which saw him finish 3rd overall in the nett.

Chris Duckworth hit another under par round in the afternoon to have a combined score of 135 but this was matched by Aaron Nurcombe who shot a very impressive 68, 67. Aaron won The Cole Cup on countback. First round leader Pep Smons couldn't match his morning round and shot a nett 72 to finish in fourth place.

In recent midweek competitions, Ian Clark took the top honours in division one. His nett 67 saw him tied with Jonathan Street and James Sinclair but he pipped them on countback over the back nine.

In division two, Jim Nation was victorious with a nett 69, this was two clear of Alan Hannigan and Bob McWilliams. Division three was won by Graham Cartwright with a 71 from Keith bevan 73 and Peter Bettridge 74.

Bob Lyon was no fewer than four shots clear of his nearest rival, Stephen Hodgson in the Over 55 TUAP. In the 65-74 division, Robert Rayner hit a magnificent 40 points to finish two clear of Pat Morgan.

In the 75+ division Royston grout was five clear of runner up Brian Eastwood having hit 34 points.
