Taunton Titans were not despondent after losing a cracking first day match at home to Redruth.

The Hyde Park outfit were leading 12-10 at half time before going down 25-15.

Club chairman Pete Stone said: "It was an end to end game and could have gone either way.

"Whoever scored next when it was 15-15 was always going to go on and win.

"We're disappointed to lose, but there were plenty of positives, with good commitment and team spirit.

"We've got a bright future ahead of us."

Redruth took the lead through a Alan Thirlby penalty before Taunton hit back with a Mike Pope try converted by Tony Yapp.

The Cornish side then went 10-7 ahead with a Craig Goodfellow try converted by Thirlby.

Dean Taylor-Menzies made it 12-10 to the Titans at the break with a well taken try.

Redruth went back in the lead with a Thomas Duncan try, but Brett Turner levelled with a penalty for Taunton.

But Redruth pulled away with another Duncan try and a conversion and penalty from Thirlby.
