A change of team colours could be a lucky break for a team of Taunton women skittlers who have qualified for next week’s finals of the Blackthorn British Skittles Championships.

In preparation for the competition later this month, the Royal Tots n Lots have ditched their familiar pink teeshirts in favour of turquoise. Team secretary Corrine Morrissey said the changed strip was: “Bright and bold, just like us.”

The Tots who play out of the Princess Royal pub in Taunton, have twice been runners-up in the sport’s national competition and are determined to make this their victory year, as opposed to being bridesmaids yet again. They’re one of the most consistent teams in Blackthorn history, qualifying every year since the competition started nine years ago.

Sixty four teams will be travelling from Cornwall to Coventry to play in the Blackthorn finals which take place on Saturday at the Riviera International Conference Centre. It’s organised by the Shoot Out Club, based in Torquay and is one of the largest individual tournaments of its kind in the UK with nearly 1,000 skittlers and supporters are expected to attend.
