CRICKET: Quiz night to raise funds for Somerset

THE Taunton Area committee of Somerset CCC have enjoyed a highly successful season during which they have raised £9,000 towards a new hover cover at the County Ground.

The funds have been raised from a number of events including a jackpot collection at the County Ground which netted £1,200, the Annual Barbeque, Royal Ascot Ladies Day, a sponsored walk along the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal, cook book sales, calendars, Grand National Draw, a quiz night and a players evening.

The Taunton Area Committee this week thanked everyone for their support during the past season and are looking forward to welcoming them at their two forthcoming fund raising events this winter.

On Thursday, October 11 at 7pm a Quiz Night (including hot buffet) will be taking place in the County Room. Teams of four or more are invited to take part with a fee of £8.50 per person.

This is an event similar to the one organised last year, which is very much a social occasion and will have a wide range of questions.

A Christmas Lunch followed by Christmas Carols will be taking place on Thursday December 6 starting at noon, with tickets costing £20.

This is a regular and popular event which has been held for many years. A traditional Christmas lunch is followed by the singing of Christmas carols, which many feel is the start to their Christmas celebrations.
