FOOTBALL: Wellington suffer another Toolstation league defeat
Wellington'S dismal run continued as newly-promoted Cheddar gained revenge for last month's defeat with a 3-1 success at the Playing Field yesterday.
New boss Jamie Ward introduced three more new signings as he attempts to get the side back on track in division one of the Toolstation league.
But he was left with plenty of food for thought, particularly as Wellington conceded two goals after Cheddar had been reduced to ten men.
The visitors got off to a flying start by taking the lead after five minutes when the ball was played forward to Joel Butcher, who cleverly lifted it over new keeper Paul Gibbins and into the far top corner of the net.
The score remained at 1-0 until the break with Wellington showing some neat approach work without creating any clear-cut openings.
But the game swung in their favour ten minutes into the second half after Cheddar skipper George Booth was sent off for his second bookable offence - a late tackle on midfielder Andy Butler.
The dismissal seemed to galvanise Cheddar as the home side failed to capitalise on their man advantage and the visitors increased their lead after 61 minutes when they broke quickly and Billy Manning's clip into the box was converted by Joe Green.
Wellington continued to try to play their passing game but were restricted to long-range efforts which were dealt with by keeper Sean Burroughs.
And the game went from bad to worse six minutes from time when Cheddar striker Jamie Howson skipped past two defenders before shooting home to complete an excellent individual goal.
In fairness to Wellington, they stuck to their guns and pulled a goal back near the end as a cross to the far post by Darren Rice was knocked in by skipper and leading scorer Leon Taswell.
