HIGH-FLYING Taunton Town return to Southern League action tomorrow when they entertain Bashley at the Viridor Stadium, kick-off 3pm.

While the Peacocks’ 18 game unbeaten run in all competitions was halted at Paulton Rovers in the FA Cup last weekend, their sequence of undefeated league games currently stands at 15.

And they will be hoping to increase that number against the New Forest outfit who lie one place off the bottom of the table and who have yet to gain a victory this season. Manager Leigh Robinson is philosophical about the end of Town’s run.

He said: “Although it would have been a big bonus to still be in the FA Cup and the prize money would have been great, I am not too unhappy that the run is over.

“It gets to a point where it’s all that you talk about. Teams are desperate to end it and it adds a bit of pressure so it’s no bad thing that we can start again.

“It was a fantastic ride while it lasted and the players were magnificent, but we are all looking forward to getting back to league action on Saturday and hopefully getting more points on the board.”

Ben Mammola and Joe Bushin return to the squad for Saturday’s game after missing the Paulton tie along with Craig Herrod who was cup tied.

There is also a chance Rodney Marsh may be back in the fold following his thigh injury.

But Shane Kingston and Simon Ingram though are absent attending a wedding while Lewis Tasker has been released.

Taunton’s scheduled Southern League game at home to Larkhall Athletic on Saturday, September 27 has been postponed due to the Bath side’s continued involvement in the FA Cup.

The club are in the process of trying to rearrange another fixture for this date.

Taunton Town Under 18s began their home campaign in the Somerset Floodlight Youth League last Thursday with a convincing 4-1 victory over Odd Down.

Lewis Waldy opened Town’s account six minutes before half time with the visitors hitting the bar shortly after.

Connor Noble fired in a loose ball to extend the lead on 51 minutes and Max Dyer rifled in a third goal eight minutes later.

Kieran Barrance converted a George Robertson cross on 78 minutes to make it 4-0 before the visitors scored a consolation three minutes from time.

Town Under 18s are in action at the Viridor Stadium this evening (Thursday) when they take on Glastonbury in the 1st round of the Roger Stone Memorial Cup, kick-off 7.45pm.

They then travel to Elmore in the first qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup next Tuesday, kick-off 7.45pm.
