TAUNTON Town play their first away game in the Evo-Stik Southern League for over a month when they travel basement side Bishops Cleeve today (3pm). The Gloucestershire outfit have yet to register a league win this season, having collected only three points, so the Peacocks will be keen to return with a maximum return to preserve their current standing of fourth.

Owen Irish comes back into contention after missing last weekend’s game with Evesham through suspension while Town are due to include another new signing in their squad in addition to recent acquisition Graham Mercieca from Bideford.

However Aidan Chainey is unavailable and new striker Kyle Bassett has decided to leave the club after only playing one game.

Manager Leigh Robinson said: “Kyle decided that it wasn’t the right move for him. Naturally we’d have liked him to give it a bit longer but fair play if he feels it’s not right for him. We have a new striker hopefully lined up for Saturday who we have had our eye on for a while.”

Taunton Town Under 18s were 5-3 winners in an exciting encounter at Clevedon Town in the Somerset Floodlight Youth League last Wednesday.

The Peacocks grabbed an early lead on eight minutes when George Robertson converted a cross from Joseph Dockings.

Clevedon quickly equalised but Town regained the lead on 34 minutes with another Robertson goal from Lewis Waldy’s corner.

A penalty two minutes later brought the hosts level again before Max Dyer slotted home six minutes before the break to put Taunton ahead for the third time.

Back came Clevedon to make it 3-3 on 57 minutes but two quick goals sealed Town’s win.

Matt Trump ran on to Dyer’s pass to fire home on the hour mark and the Clevedon keeper then fumbled a Waldy corner over the line four minutes later.
