TAUNTON Town manager, Leigh Robinson praised his players for ‘toughing it out’ during Tuesday night’s scrappy away win at Marlow.

Lewis Powell’s goal after just 40 seconds proved the decisive factor as the Peacocks climbed to third in Southern League Division One S&W – despite having to endure a nightmare journey that saw them arrive at the ground just 15 minutes before the scheduled kick-off time.

The Town boss admitted it was an ‘ugly away win’ and a ‘sluggish’ performance, but was delighted to leave Buckinghamshire with all three points.

Robinson said: "It was the archetypal ugly away win.

“Both teams looked a bit sluggish and not in top shape after a break recently, and this led to a disjointed game.

“We are of course delighted with the three points under the circumstances of a mammoth midweek journey, arriving late, poor preparation and losing two of our most experienced players during the course of the game, all of which could easily have resulted in dropping points - but the players toughed it out well."

The Peacocks travel to Mangotsfield on Saturday (3pm).
