TAUNTON Town are gearing up for two more local derbies in the space of three days, buoyed by their FA Cup success on Tuesday night.

Leigh Robinson’s side made it through to the first qualifying round of the cup by beating Tiverton Town 2-0 in their preliminary round replay – after Saturday’s original tie at the Viridor Stadium ended 4-4.

Next up for the Peacocks is a Southern League Division One South & West home clash with Bridgwater Town tomorrow afternoon, before a return to Ladysmead on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm) for a third meeting with Tiverton in the space of nine days – this time in the league.

Bridgwater arrive having shipped 16 goals in the last three games including a humiliating 6-0 home defeat by Plymouth Parkway in the FA Cup last Saturday and Town will be anxious to take full advantage of that situation.

Craig Veal and Adam Kelly were missing at Tiverton, although Robinson is hopeful that they will be available for the two games, especially as Tivvy’s seven-strong ex-Taunton contingent are unlikely to take their FA Cup defeat lying down.

Bridgy are at the foot of the table with one point from four games, having lost 6-0 at home to Hereford and 4-1 at home to Bideford before the Parkway game, while Taunton are eighth, with six points from four games.

Meanwhile, Taunton’s reward for their cup win at Tivvy is a home clash with Cinderford Town in the next round.

The tie is scheduled for Saturday, September 3, and will give Robinson’s men the chance to exact revenge for the late season defeat last April that which killed off hopes of the title, and ultimately promotion to the Southern League Premier Division.

Cinderford have endured a tough start to life in the league above, and are currently bottom after losing four of their first five games.
