KING'S College Girls won their second silverware in the space of 48 hours when they lifted the Somerset Schools Under 19 County Cup by beating Richard Huish College in the final at Tannery Field, the home of Street FC on Wednesday evening, to add to the ISFA 11 a side trophy they won on Monday.

Played in bright sunshine on a hard pitch the first half was a very keenly contested affair, in which King’s had the edge and after 20 minutes they were rewarded by a goal from Phoebe Licence who latched onto a through ball and found the back of the net.

King's created a number of chances but on each occasion they were thwarted by the Huish goalkeeper who ensured that it remained 1-0 at the break.

In the opening 10 minutes of the second half Huish pressed hard, but found the Kings defence well marshalled by Gemma Chilcott and Beth Beale and able to cope with whatever chances they created. A couple of times King’s keeper Ana Richards was called upon, but nothing that troubled her.

The Alencar twins worked hard at full back and created a number of chances, usually after a run down the wing by one or the other.

The Huish goalkeeper continued to foil any chances that King’s had until after 15 minutes Sarah Hill created a chance with a long ball into the area which was cleared back to her and she then beat a defender before firing into the corner of the goal to make it 2-0.

Huish kept coming back and kept hitting long balls through the middle which Kings defended well and from one of these Lucie Waddon moved from midfield and drove home a long distance shot to make it 3-0.

In the dying minutes Kayane Alencar scored two well taken goals both following a run down the left wing before cutting in, to make it 5-0 to Kings at the end.

Chris Heayns the Director of Football at King’s Schools said afterwards: “This was a very professional performance from the King’s girls against opponents who had a number of very talented players in their line up.

“To win two finals in three days is simply fantastic and the girls have been deservedly rewarded for all of their effort, hard work and the fantastic team spirit they have.”
