KING’S College Taunton have reached the semi-finals of the England Schools’ Football Association (ISFA) Girls’ Under 18 Cup, after they travelled to Swindon earlier this week and beat Commonweal Sixth Form College.

The hosts, who are linked with Swindon Town FC, provided the strongest opponents that King’s have faced this season.

However, at the end of the keenly-contested match it was the visitors who progressed through to the semi-finals, where they will now travel to face the holders John Madejski Academy in Reading in the new year.

King’s made a slow start and early in the first half conceded a goal from a free header in the penalty area.

The visitors retained their composure well, though, and levelled through Lannece Hole, who looked impressive on the left wing, as she picked up on a loose ball in the area and found the back of the net.

The score remained level through to half time.

King’s started the second half strongly and, playing some good football, striker Sarah Hill scored twice to give her side a 3-1 lead.

The hosts weren’t done yet though and fought back hard, creating pressure on the King’s defence, and eventually they pulled a goal back.

Hill then switched to midfield, and she provided the pass that saw Lucie Waddon slide the ball home to make it 4-2 and seal the game for King’s.

This is the second semi-final that King’s have reached, as last month they reached the last four of the ISFA Girls’ Under 18 Cup, where they will travel to face Malvern early in 2017.

Afterwards Chris Heayns, the director of football at King’s Schools, said: “This was a great team effort by the girls.

"They played good football and throughout the game they worked hard to support each other.

“There was a great team spirit against a side that has very strong links with Swindon Town FC and they were thoroughly deserving winners.”
