FANS, players and management from Taunton Town gathered for a special celebratory meal to mark the football club's historic FA Cup run.

The Peacocks made it into the first round proper of the prestigious competition for only the second time in their history after seeing off Tiverton, Cinderford Town, Slimbridge, Hampton and Richmond Borough and Hemel Hempstead.

The club's run culminated in an enthralling 2-2 draw at home to Barrow, before losing the replay tie away 2-1.

To mark the cup run, the club held a charity evening at the Cooper Associates County Ground on Monday, raising £1,600 for charity and celebrating their success.

The charity evening, hosted by Claire Carter from the BBC, came on the back of 12-match unbeaten run, and Kevin Sturmey, chairman of the club, said everybody enjoyed the occasion.

Mr Sturmey said: "It was a fantastic evening. When you organise something like this there's always the worry people might not turn up or might not go well, but it went incredibly well.

"Around 115 people turned up and we raised £1,600, which is great. Players, management, fans, sponsors and the mayor were in attendance.

"The whole idea of it was to keep the FA Cup run fresh in everybody's mind and keep the momentum going, and looking forward to the future and how can take the team forward both on and off the pitch."
