KING’s Hall School, Taunton, have taken part in the finals of the Under-11s Girls’ Independent Schools National Cup at the FA headquarters at St George’s Park for the first time ever.

The team, who only began playing football less than two years ago, won their way through to the national finals after being runners-up in the South-West region, and ended the competition in fifth place out of the 12 schools.

In the group stages, King’s Hall remained unbeaten after playing against Alton Convent, Bede’s Prep, Queen Ethelburga’s, Hale Prep, and needed to win their final game against St Edmund’s - a match they dominated.

However, the St Edmund’s keeper had a great game and denied King’s Hall the winner with a late save.

King’s won their play-off match to end the tournament in fifth place having not lost a match.

Meanwhile, King’s Hall boys’ Under-13s cricketers have won their way through to the final of the David English/Bunbury Cup that will take place at Oakham School on Tuesday (July 11).

On their way through to the finals, King’s Hall have beaten Bournemouth School, Truro School, Twyford Prep and Bede’s Prep School.

During King’s Hall’s run, James Rew and George Thomas scored unbeaten centuries while bowler Charlie Sharland claimed 8-2.
