A MEETING to consider the merger of Minehead AFC and Minehead Youth FC is being held at the club on Monday evening (7.30pm).

Minehead’s treasurer, Brian Walder, said: “This will be one of the most important decisions in recent years and anybody with an interest in the club’s future is welcome to come.

“Only club officers, committee members, vice presidents and players will be able to vote, though new committee members can be co-opted during the evening, and the club would like to hear views from all interested parties.

“The discussion is about how the club is to develop for the future and there is a huge decision to be made in accepting in principle the new proposals.”

On Saturday Minehead drew 0-0 at home to Frome Collegians in the premier division of the Somerset county league.

A stubborn performance by a Minehead team with only one recognised defender resulted in a well- earned point against one of the league’s most in form teams.

All players deserved praise but special mention should go to Luke Webber who hardly put a foot wrong as a makeshift centre half and Damion Redman whose performance earned him the man of the match award.

Minehead now start a gruelling run of five away matches, against sides who currently occupy the bottom five positions, and this run of matches could define the remainder of their season.

This Saturday sees them travel to Berrow, where the Blues will be looking for revenge after having been thumped 6-2 at Irnham Road in the second game of the season back in August.
