WELLINGTON’S young side suffered their third defeat in eight days as they went down 5-2 at home to Warminster Town at a rain-sodden Playing Field yesterday.

In heavy conditions, they again put up a spirited effort against more experienced opponents but were chasing the game from the moment they fell behind after only three minutes.

Warminster striker Louis Sparey pounced to net after keeper Callum O’Brien – playing his first game since early in the season – failed to clear a back-pass.

And it got worse for the home side midway through the half when the ball was played forward for Sparey to double the Warminster lead with a clinical finish.

Wellington pulled a goal back shortly afterwards, striker Jamie Dingle netting his second goal in four days from a Luke Redrup pull-back, but the visitors restored their two-goal advantage on the half-hour as Kurt Hammonds drilled low past O’Brien.

Again Wellington refused to lie down and Redrup made it 3-2 by volleying home a Max Westlake cross only for Warminster to score again almost straight from the re-start with Lewis Graham running on to a through ball to net.

Wellington manager Kevin Hazeldine made a double substitution at half-time in an effort to get back into the game but Warminster, who have rejoined the league this season after an absence of ten years, made it 5-2 after 55 minutes from a Paul Farrell header.

That proved to be the final goal as both sides toiled in the mud to no further avail with Wellington now facing a run of three games in only five days, starting at Almondsbury UWE on Tuesday.
