WELLINGTON’S run of defeats continued as they went down 2-0 away to Almondsbury UWE in Bristol last night.

But their much-changed side gave an improved performance and were unfortunate not to come away with a share of the spoils.

After conceding 12 goals in their previous two matches, Wellington adopted a new formation which included welcoming back skipper Scott Holland from holiday and pushing defender Jack Adams into central midfield.

Despite a bright start by the visitors, Almondsbury went ahead in the 16th minute when midfielder Jordan Conner burst through to shoot past keeper Callum O’Brien.

And, just after the half-hour, striker Jordan Rogers put O’Brien under pressure to scramble the ball over the line and double the home side’s advantage.

In between, Adams almost drew level when he ghosted in at the far post from a long throw by Tom Ellis but headed just wide.

After the break, Wellington stepped up a gear and restricted Almondsbury to a handful of long-range efforts.

At the other end, youngsters Luke Redrup and Ellis both forced smart saves out of keeper James Smith but the hard-working visitors travelled back down the M5 empty-handed.

Wellington: Callum O’Brien, Luke Bryant, Scott Holland, Martin White, Tom Ellis, Joe Chamberlain, Andy Butler, Jack Adams, Luke Redrup, James Garrad, Jamie Dingle. Substitutes: Conor Bryant and Joe Conway (used); Jack Bryant (not used). Attendance: 31.

Wellington are in action again tomorrow (Thursday) when they entertain promotion hopefuls Bradford Town at the Playing Field (7.30pm) and then complete their home programme against Westbury United on Saturday (3pm).
