WELLINGTON gave promotion-chasing Bradford Town a run for their money before going down to a 1-0 defeat at the Playing Field last night.

Despite playing their second game in only three days, the young side more than matched their high-riding opponents but were sunk by a spectacular goal out of nothing late in the first half.

There seemed little danger as a loose ball bounced in front of Bradford sub Shaun Percival almost 30 yards out but he produced a huge up-and-under which sailed over keeper Jake Viney and then dropped like a stone into the back of the net.

It was a tough blow for a Wellington team looking to end their run of defeats and they were then unable to get the breakthrough their untiring efforts deserved.

Before the visitors went ahead, midfielder Mark Clunie produced a flying save out of Bradford keeper Charlie Heydon with a thunderous volley while, in the second half, Wellington’s best effort was a looping header from sub Joe Chamberlain, which dropped just wide.
