WELLINGTON will definitely be playing Toolstation League football next season despite losing 2-1 in their penultimate game away to Oldland Abbotonians yesterday.

The league had already said it was unlikely any teams would be relegated with both Elmore and Shrewton United pulling out.

But, in any event, Devizes Town's 9-0 thrashing away to Cribbs Friends Life means that both they and Westbury United will finish below Wellington, who went into the game at Oldland without a recognised keeper.

Central defender Martin White took over between the posts and produced some fine stops with only a lucky goal giving the home side the points.

Wellington got off to a dream start by going ahead within a minute of kick-off as they won the ball, broke forward and Luke Redrup's cross was firmly headed home by teenage striker Conor Bryant.

It was the first Toolstation goal for 18-year-old Bryant, who is one of the club's crop of talented youngsters which includes his brothers Luke, Sam and Jack.

In an entertaining game, Oldland drew level after ten minutes from a spectacular dipping volley by Dan Spill which gave White no chance.

Both sides pressed for a second goal with White and his opposite number Shane Mason producing brilliant reflex saves to keep out headers from Spill and skipper Scott Holland respectively.

But it was Oldland who clinched the points with 13 minutes remaining as a speculative cross from the left by Jordan Richards sailed over everyone, including White, and dropped into the net.

Wellington have a tough end to the season next Saturday as they travel to play Hengrove Athletic, who clinched promotion yesterday and are hoping to become division one champions.
