Toolstation Western League Premier Division

Willand Rovers 11, Wellington 0

WELLINGTON'S difficult start to life in the Western League Premier Division reached a nadir last night (Wednesday) as they were thumped 11-0 by near neighbours Willand Rovers.

The tone was set almost from the first whistle as in-form striker Luke Mortimore put the hosts ahead in the third minute, and the same player doubled the lead three minutes later.

Wellington couldn't stop the wave of home attacks and Craig Veal (2), Brad Ausden, Brett Worbey found the net before Veal completed his hat-trick to establish a 7-0 lead by the half hour mark.

The visitors stemmed the flow for a spell before the hosts surged again in the second half, with Angus Wilson and an own goal taking the tally to nine.

Mortimore then brought up a hat-trick of his own to seal double figures for the rampant hosts, and Worbey fired in from outside the box to complete the rout.

Wellington will hope to bounce back quickly, and they have the opportunity to do just that at home to Brislington on Saturday.
