Wellington Under-16s suffered extratime heartbreak on Sunday in the final of the Youth Shield Final against Clevedon United.

The team’s hopes suffered a double setback when they lost key players, Josh Arnold and Jamie Stone, to injury at the end of the first-half.

But Wellington dug in and the score remainded scoreless at the end of normal time.

Extra-time proved cagey and nervy and it was with just five minutes left that Clevedon got the all-important winning goal.

A club spokesman said: “Although Wellington’s players were disappointed to have lost the final they have had a fine season and can be proud of their efforts — finishing as runners-up in the Under-16s league and winning the Tony Pryce Taunton Youth League Cup in April.”
