TAUNTON Deane 2nds maintained their push for promotion from Premier 2 with a convincing victory away to Gloucester City Winget.

Bowling first, Deane skipper Jason Squire soon had Gloucester in trouble taking three wickets in his first two overs, leaving them on 12-3.

Gloucester set about recovering the innings and were thankful to a large partnership between Craig Collinson (62 )and Tom Collinson (60) helped by some wayward Deane bowling.

The introduction of leg spinner Sam Loud broke the partnership and, from that point, Gloucester were bowled out for 238 in the 40th over, Sam Loud and Jason Squire both collecting five-wicket hauls.

The Deane were off to a flyer from ball one in the run chase with Sam Loud (37) and Jason Thomson (28) playing well. The solid start enabled Keith Ford to come in and play his natural game, his first four scoring shots all being 6s. Ford went on to score 54 from 31 balls to furthen strengthen the Deane control on the game.

Ford’s innings enabled young Max Phillips (42no) and Ryan Marsh (34no) to see the Deane to an easy victory with 10 overs to spare.
