MINEHEAD hosted top-of-the-table Weston-super-Mare in Premier 2 of the West of England Premier League.

Minehead won the toss and chose to take the field and Steve Hayes(1-39) and the promising Ellis Taylor (2-52) opened the bowling as Weston made a solid start scoring 44 before a breakthrough was made.

Then an excellent piece of fielding from Andrew Woodward ended in the run-out of the dangerous Sam Trego (46). Partnerships were solid throughout the visitors’ innings without anyone going on to make a huge score.

Matt Sully made a big impact when he came on bowling his fiery pace and looked as though he might put Minehead in the driving seat when he took two wickets in his first two overs conceding only three runs. However, Weston recovered from 165-4 to make 249-9, Woodward taking two wickets and Darren Sherring one.

Taking nine wickets gave Minehead the confidence going out to bat. However, they lost a wicket in the first over and the story of the last few games continued as Minehead’s batting line-up crumbled again. They were eventually bowled out for just 60 with only Matt Drakeley (18) and Matt Sully (10) managing to make double figures.
