WELLINGTON Cricket Club’s ECB Level One Coach George Hooper is to be recognised for his efforts in coaching at the club when he attends the ECB Sky Sports Coaches Awards for 2013 at Lord’s on Saturday, November 2.

He has been nominated for the Young Coach of the Year award given to a qualified coach who is under the age of 25, and has shown a commitment to developing the game at grass roots and community level, and has had a clear impact on a local school and/ or club.

A full day of activity is on offer, including a coaching session with members of the England Women’s side and a tour of Lord’s itself.

Wellington CC has congratulated George on his achievement.

Club secretary David Derrick said: “George, along with our other young coaches, James Bath and Sam Murdock, was nominated for this award through the Somerset Cricket Board back in February.

“All three young men were commended by the SCB for the quality of the testimonials put forward in their names in respect of meeting and exceeding the nomination criteria.

“These details were then submitted to the ECB in London for processing along with many others, and it’s excellent to hear that one of our members is to be recognised nationally.”

Wellington CC’s fifth winter coaching programme for young players begins at Court Fields School in January, 2014.
