TWO outstanding girl cricketers from Wellington School are trailblazing on the county cricket scene.

Jess Mynett and Daisy Jeanes, both in Year 8, have been playing for South Somerset against the North recently.

The matches have taken various formats and are part of the County Squad selection process.

The school’s head of cricket, Steffan Jones, said: “At the first contest held at Nailsea CC on a lovely sunny day, Jess managed to take five wickets in three overs, getting one out with her first ever ball in representative cricket.

“Daisy went on to score 36 runs in a very good innings and also take a wicket when bowling. Daisy is one of our outstanding fast bowlers and has been selected for the county side. “Both girls train hard to maintain their positions as superb cricketers, playing in mixed teams at school.”

Jones, a former Somerset county cricketer, is building the strength and conditioning of the whole school which he says is paying dividends across all sports and athletics disciplines.
