SOMERSET and Western Storm cricketer Anya Shrubsole came in ninth place in the public vote for BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2017.
Shrubsole, who almost single-handedly won the Women’s Cricket World Cup for England, gained 15,237 votes to finish between footballer Harry Kane and taekwondo star Bianca Walkden.
The Bath-born player took five wickets in just 19 balls as England beat India in a thrilling final at Lord’s in July.
That achievement was recognised by the England side winning Team of the Year at the BBC event, ensuring Shrubsole did not go home empty-handed.
The main award was won by distance runner Mo Farah, with motorcyclist Jonathan Rea second and para athlete Jonnie Peacock third.
