THERE was only one place to be on Sunday for those interested in the racing world and that was the open day held by National Hunt trainer Jeremy Scott’s at his Brompton Regis stables.

The event was held in aid of the Injured Jockeys Fund and the West Somerset Hunt.

The well-attended event attracted visitors across the age groups and enabled everyone who attended the chance to meet not only the trainer himself and his horses – including the highly rated Melodic Rendezvous who triumphed in three Grade 2 Hurdle races last season to earn over £100,000 – but also his dedicated team who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the yard’s success.

In addition to the better known horses, Scott – whose yard enjoys extensive views over Wimbleball Reservoir and the surrounding area – had a number of his younger horses on show.

He said: “This is always the best time of the year for us because at the moment by and large the horses are all sound, they look really well and in a month’s time they will be ready to go. We have got a nice bunch of horses in the yard this season.

“Every one the 36 boxes we are licensed for is full in addition to which we have got several younger horses making a total of about 45 horses about the place in total.”

If Scott had to pick one or two horses from his yard for people to follow this year which ones would they be?

“We may be looking to put Melodic Rendezvous in a chase, but we will also be aiming for some of those valuable two mile hurdle races.

“Empiricle has had a season off and has now returned from injury and is looking a very exciting horse.

“Boogie in the Barn is another very nice horse for this year. We have also got a lot of youngsters that haven’t been named yet and they are looking good at the moment.
