OAKE Manor Ladies held a hugely successful Open Day in glorious weather, taking full advantage of a course superbly manicured for the Pro Am a few days before.

A total of 28 teams of three entered the Bowmaker playing off ¾ handicap from as far away Bath, Saunton Sands, Holsworthy and Stover.

In third place were Jenny Scarth, Claire Wooley and Alison P B from Sherbourne with 72 Stableford points.

Just ahead in second place were Ginny Farnworth Smith from Oake Manor, Aideen Roach and Amanda Head from Long Sutton with 73 points.

In first place, clearly playing at a different level, with a magnificent score of 80 points were Patricia Frazer from Oake Manor (still recovering from a broken wrist), Pippa Western from Bath and Carolyn Stait from Taunton and Pickeridge.

Stait also won the spot prize for nearest the 18th pin in two shots. The Ladies Stableford results for Sunday, September 14 were: 1st Alison Spackman 36 points, 2nd Claire Tough 35 points, 3rd Ros Wills 33 points and 4th Rachel Hughes 31 points.

On Friday, September 12 Oake Manor held their annual Pro-am.

It was well supported with 39 teams and a host of sponsors offering great prizes and helping make the event a overwhelming success. The day began with the first tee shots being struck just after 8am and not finishing until 2.30pm with the penultimate group led by professional Phillip Price (ex-Ryder Cup player). The weather was fantastic with nothing but sunshine and the tamest of breezes. The day’s calm conditions offered very low scoring with 16 professionals breaking par.

There was a four-way tie for first at 5 under 65 between Paul Hendrikson (Dinnaton Golf Club), Michael Watson (Wessex Golf Centre), Kevin Harper (Sidmouth Golf Club), Phillip Price. They were followed by Ross Langdon (South Cerney Golf Club) and David Dixon (Enmore Golf Club) on 4 under 66. James Ruth (China Fleet Golf and Country Club) and Paul Jones (Canford Magna Golf Club) tied on 3 under 67. Oake Manor’s own Lewis Hanney put in a superb performance shooting a 69 (-1) and finishing in a tie for 11th place.

The team scores showed the amount people had been practising with a host of scores way under par.

The Weymouth Bad Boys clinched the team event with a sensational score of 119 (21 under par), followed closely by the T & P Spurs with 121 and Barry’s Best Buddies on 124.
