GALMINGTON travelled to Gloucester to play Hucclecote A in Regional League Division One and lost 52-43.

A high-scoring first quarter of high quality, in which Galmington’s goal attack Laura Dyke was in excellent form, ended with Hucclecote holding a narrow 15-13 lead.

Hucclecote, whose ranks were bolstered by several players from their National League squad, began to take control in the next period and extended their lead to 30-24 at half-time.

The Gloucestershire side then dominated the opening stages of the third quarter to more than double their lead and seemingly take the match away from Galmington.

With Laura Phelps playing superbly at wing defence, Galmington scored seven goals without reply but Hucclecote were still 42-33 ahead going into the final quarter.

As hard as Galmington tried they could not close the gap.

In Regional League Division Two Trident suffered their first defeat for almost a year, going down to promotion favourites Titans of Devon.

There was nothing to choose between the teams in an evenly contested first quarter and Trident levelled the score at 11-11 right at the end of the period.

It was a similar story in the second quarter as the sides traded goal for goal and, once again in a déjà vu moment, Trident scored right on half-time to draw level at 20-20.

Former Galmington player Kat Venner moved from goalkeeper to centre for Titans in the second half and her experience, together with the outstanding shooting of the Titans’ goalshooter, proved decisive.

Titans moved ahead and Trident, not used to being behind, struggled to find any rhythm and trailed 35-25 at the end of the period.

They regrouped for the last quarter and again more than matched their opponents but the damage had been done in the third quarter.

And Trident, for whom the versatile Kirsty Mitchell, who played in all three defensive positions, was particularly impressive, were beaten 44-35.
