THE youngest member of the Carson hockey dynasty is following in his brothers’ footsteps towards England representation.

George Carson, who is in Year 13 at Wellington School, has been selected for the U-18 boys’ West of England team which is playing in the England Hockey’s Futures Cup at the end of half term.

The competition, featuring teams from the four English regions, is run at Cannock HC as a round robin where the players will be looking to impress the England selectors.

George, who plays for Taunton Vale men’s 1st XI at weekends, is looking forward to the two intensive training days in the next couple of weeks in preparation for the tournament.

His eldest brother Tom Carson is in the GB hockey squad and played for England in the World Cup last May – as well as having appeared on Dragons’ Den with his ‘onesie’ range, Young Ones.

Meanwhile his other brothers, James and Ed, have both played at national level.

James, who plays for Cardiff Met, has been invited to train with the Wales U-21 team after Christmas.

The boys’ father, Andrew, is a housemaster at Wellington.

He said: “We are particularly pleased for George as his three brothers were also fortunate to have represented the West in this national tournament in their age group when they were at school.

“Although there is friendly rivalry between them, they are delighted that he has been selected.”
