AMANDA George, who only took up archery as a novice with The Bowmen of Danesfield in Williton in April this year, has been selected to shoot for Archery GB at the Paralympic Games in Rio in 2016.

George, a solicitor from Taunton, joined the club in partnership with the Somerset and Sports Partnership (SASP) in ‘have-a-go’ sessions at Somerset College.

Her coach Doug Human said: “There was something special about Amanda and her shooting and with a lot of work she has been able to achieve this goal.

“All the club members are delighted with news.”

Club senior Pauline Brown has enjoyed her best year ever, achieving a first place in the GWAS championships which cover all the South-West.

Meanwhile Human and fellow coach Bill Peters also guided seven junior members to county recognition in 2014.

Human said: “This year has been an excellent one for the disabled, seniors and juniors.

“Apart from target shooting, the club have also, with the help of the Forestry Commission, begun to develop field archery – an excellent add-on and a new challenge for many.”
