GALMINGTON Netball Club enjoyed a weekend to remember as they continued their successful season at all levels.

In Regional League Division One Galmington entertained old rivals Plymouth Pilgrims at the Vale and quickly took control of the match.

Galmington were playing fast flowing netball whilst their strong defence was limiting the Plymouth goal scoring opportunities and by the first interval they had built an impressive 13-5 lead.

The first half of the second quarter was evenly matched before Galmington opened up a thirteen goal lead only for Plymouth to score three late goals leaving Galmington with a 25-15 half-time lead.

With both defences on top the third period followed the same pattern but Galmington were still 30-21 ahead halfway through the quarter.

The strong defences were causing both teams to make uncharacteristic errors and a bizarre period of play saw neither side score for a full six minutes before Galmington broke the spell to finish the quarter with a healthy 33-21 advantage.

With Emma McCormack outstanding at wing defence, constantly taking clean interceptions and picking up loose balls, Plymouth were unable to make any inroads into the deficit and Galmington went on to complete a memorable 46-27 victory.

Trident bounced back to winning ways with a comprehensive win over Weston in Division Two. Trident were soon into their stride dominating the early exchanges to open up a 16-8 first quarter lead.

Weston, to their credit, did not allow Trident to pull away in the next period but they still held a comfortable 29-20 half-time lead.

However, with wing attack Natalia Sexton feeding the attacking circle with pinpoint accuracy, Trident were able to stretch their lead to 46-29 going into the final quarter and they went on to win by 59 goals to 36.

It was a superb team performance by Trident and keeps alive their outside chance of promotion to Division One with just two matches remaining.

It was Somerset League Knock Out Cup Semi-Final day so there were no league fixtures but Hovelands were involved in a Kenyon Cup Semi-Final against Yeovil’s Newton.

There was nothing to choose between the teams in the opening period which ended with Hovelands holding an 11-10 lead.

However, Hovelands began to assert their authority on the match with Imogen Setter’s movement and passing at wing attack and Jordyn Baker’s brilliant shooting allowing them to build a 31-22 lead. With Danni Cross-Henley again dominant in defence Hovelands extended their lead to 47-33 at three-quarter time and, although they switched off in the closing stages, they had plenty in hand to progress to the final with a 54-48 victory.

Galmington’s Under-14s travelled to Exeter on Sunday to represent Somerset in the Regional Southern Section Tournament of the National Competition.

They began strongly with a comfortable win over Carn Brae 12-3 before coming unstuck against eventual winners West Exe 10-8.

Undeterred they quickly bounced back with wins over Bude (9-7) and Plymouth Marjohn (15-2) before recording an outstanding 22-7 victory over a strong Penryn side.

They maintained their high standard of netball with wins over Plymouth College (10-2) and Yeovil (12-6) to qualify in second place for the regional play-offs.

It was a tremendous performance by the whole squad with the shooters maintaining their accuracy throughout the tournament, the centre court players controlling the play with swift accurate passing and the defence remaining solid and disciplined against some very talented shooters.

Squad: Megan Conabeare, Ellie-Mae Vohra, Olivia Sandow, Eleri Brown, Georgie Simms, Jasmine Walker, Katie Mahon, Emma Griffiths, Megan Palmer and Beatrice Renyard.
