TAUNTON School student Georgia McGovern competed for England in the U17 NEVZA volleyball competition involving six other countries; Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Faroe Islands.

She only joined the team the weekend prior to the competition, meaning she only just met the team and had the week to know each player on and off court.

Georgia, who is only 14, started as the main setter and had a great rapport with each player.

The team came second in their pool putting them in the semi-finals against Iceland, which the team unfortunately lost 3-1.

The final game was the third/fourth play-offs against Sweden who came first in the pool.

From being 2-0 down, the team fought back in the third set and won making it 2-1.

The fourth set saw the team fighting until the end, saving six set points but despite their great spirit and fighting for each point, Sweden took the final set 29-27 and wining the game 3-1.

England girls have made history coming fourth in an international competition.

Georgia was not only a significant player on the team but was also the youngest player at the whole tournament.
