TAUNTON Volleyball Club's Under-16s girls travelled to Bournemouth for the first round fixture of the National Knock-Out Cup.

A pool of three teams – Bishop of Llandaff High School (South Wales), Wessex (Bournemouth) and Taunton – gathered at LeAF Academy to play a series of round robin matches.

First up were Bishop of Llandaff – in effect the Welsh girls squad – who recently competed in the UK School Games.

Volleyball Taunton were alive to the situation and played at a very high level to win the best-of-three match 2-0.

Most valuable player (MVP) was Anna Chojnacka, who attends King Alfred's School, Burnham, and has just turned 14.

The second match for Taunton was against favourites Wessex.

Taunton were just too determined and focused for their opponents, though, and crushed them 2-0.

MVP went to Kaja Jankowska, who is also 14 and attends Wellington School, Wellington.

As a result, Taunton won the group and progressed to the second round along with Bishop of Llandaff.

The second round will be played in January in West Buckland School, North Devon.
