SPORTS students at Richard Huish College have earned their places at the Association of Colleges National Championships in April 2017 after huge success in the regional competitions.

Students from Huish competed across a variety of sports including cross country, hockey, rugby, basketball and table tennis.

Forty-two students qualified for the event and are now looking ahead to the Nationals taking place at Nottingham University from April 21-23, 2017.

The men’s rugby team fought off some tough competition from colleges around the South West to go through to national finals, while the men’s hockey team won a thriller to secure their place in April.

Runners Oscar Rogers, Ben Tull and Morgan Davy outshone their competitors to qualify for cross country running, and Rachel Tsang finished in second place in the Table Tennis to gain her place.

Finally, the women’s basketball team also qualified, and will be joining the Huish team hoping for some medals.

Matt Nolan, sports development manager, said: "We are extremely proud of all those who took part in the AoC regional championships and we are pleased to have so many qualify to represent the college at the National Championships.

"We have seen a significant increase in the number of students doing sport at Richard Huish College, and with the completion of our brand new Sports Hall at the end of this month, we hope know that this will continue."
