Regional League Division 1
Raychem 49, Galmington 65

GALMINGTON made the long trip to Swindon to play bottom side Raychem, and returned with a fine win.

The lead changed hands several times in the first quarter as Raychem made good use of their tall and talented goal shooter.

Galmington held a narrow 16-14 lead but defended superbly in the second quarter and, with wing attack Sam Newton and shooter Beth Blackwell in excellent form, they led 32-23 at half time.

They pulled away to 49-34 in the third period before taking a well-deserved win.

Somerset League - Division 1
Claremont 65, Sapphires 20

Claremont sealed an immediate return to the Somerset Premier Division by beating Sydenham’s Sapphires.

Sapphires scored the first two goals of the match but Claremont took a 15-4 first-quarter advantage, and it was 29-13 at half time.

The shooting partnership of Alison Nelson and Gina Sayer combined brilliantly, and the home side stretched their lead to 47-14.

Claremont kept up the intensity for a resounding win.

Division 3
Queensway 49, Rubies 52

Queensway also sought to confirm promotion, but will have to wait after their second loss of the season.

The home side trailed 22-21 at half time, and although Evie Tatterton’s shooting helped them retake the lead (38-37), it was Rubies’ day – but, with three games left, Queensway’s promotion is still all but secure.

Division 4
Newbarn 47, Emeralds 17

Newbarn are also on the brink of promotion after a comprehensive win over Sydenham’s Emeralds.

Newbarn started well, with Jess Bullock on song as they led 29-5 at halfway.

The second half was more even, but Newbarn were still comfortable winners.

ELSEWHERE, Galmington Netball Club shooter Megan Conabeare has been chosen to represent Team Bath Netball Performance League.

Conabeare, who is only 15 and attends Taunton School, will train weekly within the country’s premier under-19s netball league set-up.

Team Bath’s NPL squad competes against nine other teams who, together with Bath, are the Under-19s representatives of the various franchises which make up the Netball Superleague.

Lisa Manley, head of netball at Taunton School, commented: “The league provides players with an opportunity to hone and develop their talent in a competitive environment, with many players aspiring to take to the court at the very top national and international level.

“This is an especially great achievement, as Megan is only 15.”

Conabeare, from Taunton, added: “I was very happy to be selected for the squad and really enjoyed my first game against London Pulse.

“I’m looking forward to training every week and getting great experience with the team.”

Megan played her first game for Team Bath last weekend, unfortunately losing to a strong London Pulse team, which had a number of Under-17s and Under-19s England players competing for them.
