RICHARD Huish College track and field athlete Tim McKee has his sights set on the South West Regional Athletics Championships.

The former Bishop Fox’s student from Taunton, who is a member of Taunton Athletics Club, has been competing since he started secondary school through the inspiration and support of his PE teacher.

His career started with a passion for sprinting, but due to an injury he took on field events, he quickly became hooked on multi-disciplines and now represents the county in decathlon, a combination of 10 track and field events.

In order to fully support his studies with training, McKee is on an extended three-year programme at Huish, studying PE, history and biology, enabling him to run his academic subjects alongside his training and competitions.

He also represents the college athletics team.

Currently training six days a week, McKee is fully focused on his next competition of the season, having just competed in Somerset County AA track and field championships, winning multiple individual events.

Next up is the South West Regional Championships in Yeovil, where Tim will be representing Somerset with the aim of qualifying for the National Championships in September.

McKee said: “Huish have been really supportive, allowing me to study alongside maintaining my intense training regime and busy competition period.”
