THE gala event of this year’s 125th anniversary celebrations at Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club took place at the weekend with a competition held over two days and a grand party on Saturday evening.

In bright but slightly breezy weather on a course in excellent condition with smooth, fast greens, 210 people played in teams of four with two scores to count.

The winning team comprised Martyn Alison, Mark Goodridge, Chris West and Mark Bushen, who amassed an impressive 91 points.

The next three teams all scored 90 points and, after countback, second prize was won by Paul Timbury, Chris Mogg, John Delacherie and Charlie Hooper.

Third place went to Jason Brock, Barry Hardwill, Gary Wide and Roy Miller, while fourth place was taken by Curtis Edwards, Ian Edwards, C. Legg and B. Riddle.

The best mixed team consisted of Rob Darvell, Marion Mittermaier, Barry Gromett and Sarah Frost, while the best all ladies team was Mary Guy, Jenny Scobie, Marlene Ewens and Katy Davies.

As a special nod to the anniversary celebrations, there was a prize for the best aggregate score on holes 1, 2 and 5, and this was scooped by Heather Crump, Mike Crump, Martin Moore and Sarah Allan.

A total of 128 members, their family and friends attended the club’s Summer Party.

They enjoyed a luxury buffet, dancing to the group Delicious, and an impressive fireworks display late in the evening.

Many thanks all round to green staff, catering staff, entertainers, organisers and helpers for a very successful weekend of celebrations.
