KING’S College pupil Ellie Carrow has qualified for the English Schools Athletic Association national championships in Birmingham next weekend (July 7-8), when she will take place in the inter girls triple jump final.

After two days of intense competition, 15-year-old Carrow also secured one of the two automatic qualifying places from the South West region for the English Schools national heptathlon final, having placed fifth.

That heptathlon event will take place in Boston, Lincolnshire, on the weekend of September 26-27.

She managed to set five personal bests in the seven events, scoring 249 more points than when she competed in the county competition back in April.

She finished with a total of 4,258 points – this included a 1.01m improvement and school record in the shot putt (10.63m), and she carved 0.79secs off her 200m best (26.77s).

Commenting on Carrow’s success, her coach Steve Shaw said: “Ellie has been competing against older girls in the Under-17 category for both of her events.

“This is a fantastic achievement for Ellie, who is just 15,” he added.

“I would have expected her to achieve these feats next year, so to have reached the finals this year is just fantastic!”

Carrow’s distinguished track and field performances have put her in a position where she currently holds six King’s College records across Third Form and Fourth/Fifth Form.
