RICHARD Taylor won Division 1 of the Oake Manor Sunday Medal played on Sunday, July 23 with a nett 66.

Mark Mitchell was second with nett 67 and Ian Williams came third with nett 68.

Steve Plowman won Division 2 with nett 67 ahead of second-placed Mike Osguthorpe (nett 68) and John Ashton in third with nett 69.

Suzanne Reed won the Ladies Sunday Stableford Competition, also played on July 23, scoring 31 points.

Shane Bordier came second with 30 points and Rosemary Webber third (also 30 points).

David Free, Seniors competition secretary, won the Seniors’ Medal on Monday, July 24 after scoring nett 69.

Second in Division 1 was John Beer with nett 70 and Seniors Captain Mike Sheppard was third with nett 71.

John Robbins won Division 2 with nett 69, Alan Trott was second with nett 70 and Howard Spear third with nett 71.

Rosemary Webber had a superb round to win the Ladies Medal on July 25 with a score of nett 65; close behind in second place was Suzanne Reed with nett 66 and Janet Howe was third with nett 68.

Pip Verge won Division 2 and the Grass Roots Trophy for Ladies with handicaps over 30 with a nett score of 74, while Liz How was second with nett 75 and Karen Potter third with nett 66.

Simon Molloy scored 41 points to win the Midweek Stableford on July 26.
Mike Osguthorpe was second with 39 points and Neil Blackmore third (38 points).

Oake Manor’s B team, also known as The Wasps, have enjoyed an excellent season so far in Division 3 of the Avalon Golf League.

Having played eight matches, the side have managed seven wins, including away victories against other clubs’ A teams, such as The Mendip and Mendip Spring. 

The team are unbeaten at home and many pairings have outstanding win percentage records. 

Pairings have gelled well, with many unbroken partnerships being maintained throughout the summer. 

The team have amassed a total of 74.5 points already from their eight matches. 

Captain Ricky Selway said: “This has been a season that has exceeded all expectations. 

“While we had developed a stronger-looking team from last year in the pre-season, certain individuals showed the desired commitment to our team early in the spring, and this dedication was exactly what was required in order to create a harmonious and unified squad. 

“I hope we can finish the season strongly and continue the good work already completed.”

SATURDAY was the Men’s Invitation Day at Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club, and a tight competition saw the winners decided on countback, as the first three teams all scored 45 points.

Roy Parminter and Iain Robertson came out top, with Andy Willet and Chris Brice second, and Neil Aries and Steve Bateman third.

On Tuesday, 132 Ladies played in the T&P 4 Ball Team Event, with 120 visitors from 23 clubs, in a Bowmaker Stableford format.

The winning team, with 87 points, were Amanda Wookey, Joan Paterson, Rachel Paul and Mary McConalogue, who were three points ahead of Denise Case, Rosemary Bickham, Jenny Scarth and Alison Prideaux-Brune on 84.

Third place went to Stephanie Hewitt, Sarah Whiting, Angela Anstey and Jan Preston with 83 points, on countback from Shane Bordier, Rosemary Webber, Sandra Lawrence and Sue Reed.

The raffle raised £220 for Alzheimer’s Society.

The Junior Open took place on Sunday, with T&P’s James Rew winning the gross competition, and George Mills from East Devon the nett.

The winner of the 9 holes event played off the blue tees was George Thomas with nett 26, ahead of James Pellow and Pierre Clifford.

T&P junior members Charlie Hooper and Alfie Jubb, both 15, shone with Somerset Under-18s against Cornwall at Trethorne.

They played an 18 holes foursomes and won (2 up), and then both won their afternoon singles to help Somerset triumph 10-5.
