GALMINGTON Netball Club’s seven teams played their opening fixtures of the season on Saturday.

Claremont travelled to Bridgwater to play Saturn and took an 11-4 lead in the first quarter.

The score was level at 14-14 at half time but excellent play from Toni Smyth helped seal a 32-28 victory.

The team is sponsored by Somerset County Sports.

Parkfield visited Sydenham Sapphires and had a tricky game playing with six - a combined team of mature experienced players and some quick juniors.

They fought hard, never giving up but lost 71-30.

Player of the match was Ella Silsby.

The team is sponsored by eat the bird.

Queensway entertained Aldon, from Yeovil, and, despite the difficult weather, played well.

The accurate feeds by centre court players into the shooters circle showed fantastic strength and they took an early lead 13-10 after the first quarter.

Defence in the circle had numerous interceptions enabling them to increase the lead.

This resulted in a 49-41 win for Queensway against a great Yeovil side.

Player of the match was Evie Tatterton (GA).

The team is sponsored by One Day Like This (event planning and co-ordination).
