TAUNTON open their new season tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon when they host a seven-race card that starts at 1.20pm, writes Richard Walsh.

With 63 runners declared, leading trainers Paul Nicholls, David Pipe, Nicky Henderson and Colin Tizzard all having entries and top jockeys Tom Scudamore, Paddy Brennan, Tom O’Brien and Nico de Boinville all booked to ride local racegoers look to be in for a treat to kick off the new campaign.

The big race on the card is the 'Confined' Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) over two miles and half a furlong at 3.20 which is worth more than £8k to the winner.

This contest looks to be between two horses Man of Plenty and Barman- the latter the only runner from Nicky Henderson’s yard, but both are likely to be short odds.

Those looking for more value and an each way investment during the day might want to have a closer look at Red Rasasee from Tim Vaughans stable in the 1.50pm, or Lady of Longstone trained by David Pipe in the 4.20pm.

Punters are reminded that a courtesy coach service departs from Taunton Railway Station two hours before the first race and returns from the course 30 minutes after the start of the last.
