SOMERSET Wyverns American Football Club are holding an open day tomorrow (November 5), at 11am, to celebrate their support from Taunton Deane Borough Council and Sports England.

With the team building towards league status for 2018, the council granted them use of a pitch at Victoria Park and also installed official American football goalposts.

In addition, a Sports England grant has allowed the Wyverns to buy more equipment and protective gear for training.

Their opening ceremony is to be attended by the deputy mayor of Taunton, to officially open the field, as well as by members of Taunton Association for the Homeless (TAH), a charity which the club hope to work closely with going forward.

There will be refreshments from the pavilion, provided by the Victoria Park Steering Group.

The Wyverns are also running two ‘Rookie Camps’ to allow potential players to give the sport a go, with the first taking place on November 5 at 11.45am, following the open day.

For more information or to get involved, contact the club via facebook.com/SomersetWyvernsAFC or by emailing somersetwyverns@gmail.com.

A second camp for prospective new players takes place each Sunday between December 3 and December 17 at Victoria Park.
