Sydenham Gems 46, Taunton Vivary 46

HAVING beaten Gems in their last match, Vivary were prepared for a tough, well contested game.

And so it proved, as they had to work hard to take a two-goal lead at the end of the first quarter.

Both teams came out fighting in the second quarter and Gems’ efforts were repelled as Vivary extended their lead to four.

Hosts Gems hit back in the third to turn the score on its head and take a 39-36 lead.

But Vivary fought back as the game flowed one way then the other, before they equalised with moments to go and tie a great game.

Taunton Tone 55, Newton Yeovil 27

AFTER not having a home game in a couple of months, Tone went out strong and determined with every player excelling on court.

They took a slender lead into the second quarter but began to dominate with the defensive trio of Lucy (GK), Nic (GD) and Kim (WD) making it very tricky to Newton to build momentum.

The shooting duo – Vicki (GS) and Leila (GA) – dominated the circle, creating space for each other, while every Toner claimed several turnovers.

They all changed their game professionally and accordingly due to the unusually slippery floor.

QUANTOCK anticipated a tough game having drawn against Wyndham in their last game.

With a couple of team changes, they got off to a slow start while Wyndham converted a high percentage of their chances.

The game eventually ending in another draw – an excellent result in the end for Quantock.

By half-time they had advanced to 27-13 up but Venus clawed back to deficit to 33-21 going into the final quarter.

Regional League 2
Mavericks 53, Galmington Trident 31

DESPITE travelling away with a bare team of seven, Trident had belief in themselves.

However, they took time to get into the game, falling 14-7 behind in the first quarter.

Despite brilliant work rate from all seven, the Mavericks defence proved too strong and the usual flow in Trident’s attack was disrupted.

Trident continued to fight throughout the game, determined to clinch a vital point.

Drawing in the last quarter showed great effort from the Galmington team, with Jaz Chester taking countless interceptions.
