Hovelands 60, Newton 39

HOVELANDS have been crowned champions of the Somerset Premier League with a game in hand.

A tense first quarter was goal for goal but, thanks to some cracking interceptions from Hannah Symes and beautiful shooting from Daisy West to convert, Hovelands nudged into the lead.

By the second and third quarters, Hovelands pulled away.

Special mention goes to Polly Land, who played the third quarter with fresh stitches in her knee after an operation.

In the final quarter, the Hovelands legs tired, but at full time, they were victorious in the match and league.

Hovelands now go through to playoffs for Regional League 3.

Somerset Division 1
Parkfield 48, Quantock 38

PARKFIELD battled through the heat to defeat a strong Quantock side.

The Parkfield defenders Hannah, Ella and Holly kept as many balls to themselves as they could, passing the ball safely to centre and through to attack.

With great movement in the D by Jess and Evie, Parkfield finally found their feet in playing as a team together.

Queensway 36, Blackdown 37

A HOT and sweaty Queensway took to the court against Blackdown, and edged into a one-goal lead in the first quarter.

The opposition took a two-goal lead before Queensway edged ahead yet again going into the final quarter.

Queensway created some great passages of play and turned over the ball from the defence of Holly and Carol.

Another sterling performance by centre Lily saw her earn POTM as she worked hard both in defence and attack.

With 30 seconds to go there was only one point in it, but ultimately it fell in Blackdown’s favour.
