Minehead Rugby Club are ready for their trip to Bristol on Saturday to face St Bernadettes – despite having had a week without a game.

Head coach Andrew Stevens told the Gazette: “It’ll be difficult to head back into action seamlessly after a week off but we’ll do our best to make sure we don’t miss a beat.

“Our last game was a fortnight ago now, when we drew with Hornets and it’ll be a struggle to go from playing the top of the league team to one of the lesser lights.

“It would be easy for us to go into the game feeling a little complacent but I’m doing my best to make sure that’s not the case.”

Minehead’s game was postponed last week due to a frozen pitch, although if it had been a home game it would have gone ahead.

Stevens said: “Our pitch was in good shape but Imperial’s was frozen solid. Our thirds played at home and won 17-15 against Wyvern.”

Stevens also said that last weeks postponment had a silver lining for his side as several players were able to rest injuries they had been carrying.

“The week off probably suits us to be honest, as we’ll have several players feeling rested and refreshed,” he said, “and we had two or three players unavailable last week who ended up not missing a game, which was fortunate.”

Minehead are yet to hear from St Bernadettes about the prospects of Saturday’s game going ahead but expect a phone call on Friday night to confirm the fixture.

Stevens will name a largely unchanged side from the game against Hornets a fortnight ago, which ended as a 23-23 draw.
