TITANS put their unbeaten home record on the line again today when they entertain sixth-placed Bishop’s Stortford at Hyde Park (3pm).

The previous game earlier in the season saw a 37-32 victory to Taunton when Bishop’s Stortford were second from bottom in the league.

A proverbial game of two halves saw Taunton lead by 30 points at half time only to finish the game praying for the final whistle as the home side came out and attacked from all over the field.

The game ended six tries to five in Taunton’s favour but the game proved the catalyst for Bishop’s to start moving up the table.

They have scored some notable victories – including against Shelford at home and Cambridge away – and have more or less guarantee themselves National League 2 South rugby next season after joining the league this term. The Titans have played the top thre teams in the last thre weeks and this has taken its toll on the players with a growing injury list.

A lot of these are small niggles but one player who will not take part in the rest of the season is centre Luke Plummer who last Saturday received a compound fracture to his little finger and had to have an operation to re-attach the tendon.

Plummer, who has only missed a few games this season, is expected to make a full recovery ready for pre-season in the summer.

Last Saturday Titans slumped to a 40-12 defeat at Ampthill who adapted the better of the two sides to very windy conditions.

Coach Keith Brooking said: “As a squad we are disappointed with the result even in the difficult conditions.

“The wind was that strong that even trying to keep upright on the side of the pitch was tough going so to play in it was always going to be difficult.

“However we gave them three easy tries in the first half while we played into the wind which in reflection was one of the reasons we lost.

“We were taught a bit of a lesson on how to play rugby into the wind by Ampthill as they kept the ball for long periods of time and put pressure on us at the breakdown and tackle area which meant we made mistakes.

“However that said, we know as a group that we didn’t really perform to our potential which is something we can address with a good week of training.

“The good thing about league rugby is that you have a chance to put a bad performance behind you very quickly so hopefully the players can respond well and help maintain their unbeaten home record.”
