TAUNTON Titans, who are involved in a four-way dogfight for the play-off spot in National league 2 (South), face another key test today when they entertain Chinnor at Hyde Park (3pm).

The Titans were boosted by a superb 51-17 victory at second-placed Dorking last weekend.

With only the top team guaranteed promotion to National League 1, the team in second place will play the second placed team in the equivalent league in the North section.

With Henley only needing to claim another 11 points out of the remaining 25 available they are firm favourites for the automatic promotion place.

That leaves a four way fight for second between Dorking, Bishops Stortford, Worthing and the Titans.

With only eight points separating all four teams – and with both Dorking and Worthing having to travel to Henley before the end of the season – and it is anybody’s guess what the outcome will be.

As for the Titans, they have a tough run in themselves and the next five weeks are all cup finals as far as they are concerned as one mistake would mean they are out of the running.

On paper it looks like they have an easy run in but three of the five teams are fighting to avoid relegation at the end of the season so there will be no easy games in the next two months.

The first of these five tough games sees the visit of Chinnor to Hyde Park on Saturday for what could prove to be a cracker.

A lot was talked about Chinnor at the beginning of the season as they recruited heavily in the summer, signing players with Premiership and Championship experience in Alfie To’oala and Junior Fatiolofa as well as the ex-Taunton player and prolific try scorer Reuben Haile.

Haile has scored 16 tries already this season and would like nothing more than to notch the winning score against his old club like he did in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

The Titans will be hoping to pick from a full squad for the weekend but a doubt will be Sam Skinner who could well be involved with England Under-20s this weekend.

And with several of the first team players also involved with Exeter University’s BUCS semi-final against Loughborough University yesterday it might be a late selection for coaches Tony Yapp and Chris Brown.
